Special Programs

Charleston Heritage Entertaiment (CHE) is proud to offer unique musical programs that can enhance any event. More than just another 'band,' these special programs feature the area's most talented musicians performing featured music and styles. Below are just a few of the musical programs we currently offer. The Music of George Gershwin: George Gershiwn has a special relationship with the lowcountry, having fallen in love with the area while living in the Charleston are during his work on 'Porgy and Bess.' This famous American Folk Opera, set in the Charleston area, contains many now standard jazz compositions such as 'Summertime,' 'I Got Plenty o' Nuttin,' and 'I Loves You Porgy.' The Music of George Gershwin Program features a Jazz ensemble that performs, along with other Jazz standards, a number of Gershwin songs including selections from Porgy and Bess, as well as many other famous Gershwin tunes such as 'Fascinating Rhythm,' 'A Foggy Day,' Embraceable You,' I Can't Get Started,' I've Got Rhythm,' 'Lady Be Good,' 'Our Love is Here to Stay,' etc...

Jazz Heritage Program: Consisting of some of the most qualified and talented Jazz musicians in the area, the Charleston Heritage Jazz Ensemble performs Jazz from many popular styles including New Orleans 'Second Line' music, to Bebop, Swing, and Latin Jazz styles. You will find that this ensemble is not your typical tired out 'reception band,' rather it's an energetic, extremely professional and talented group of musicians dedicated to their craft of performing Jazz music.

Uptown Jazz: This program is perfect for the true instrumental Jazz lover. This ensemble performs arrangements of the music of Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Thelonius Monk, and Bud Powell just to name a few. This 'hard swinging' ensemble is nostalgic of 52nd street in Manhattan in its heyday.

Latin Jazz: This program offers latin influenced jazz music, perfect for a unique sound at an event or reception. The ensemble fuses brazilian and cuban musical styles with traditional jazz selections.

South Carolina Musical Heritage Program: This program is geared at representing many of the styles of music that have a long lineage in the Carolinas. From Bluegrass, to Blues and Jazz, this program will feature a number of performers and styles in one evening. The exact line up of performers changes depending on availability and budget.

Blues of the South: This Program offers a taste of the south's longstanding blues tradition. Local artists will vary depending on availability and budget.
